Cincinnati Nursing Home Launches New Memory Care Program

September 24, 2020
Cincinnati, Ohio - The Home at Taylor's Pointe is excited to share with you some new and exciting changes you can expect to see in the very near future. As part of our efforts to enhance the lives of our elders living with Alzheimer's Disease, dementia, and other conditions that impair memory function and cognition, we are excited to announce our new Memory Support Program Coordinator, Raysheena (Sheena) Chisolm.

Sheena has been with us for over 4 1/2 years. She began her career with us as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) and transitioned into an activity assistant role just over a year ago. During her time in the activity department, Sheena completed the Activity Director program and currently holds the required Activity Director Certification.

The Memory Support Program Coordinator is a new position within our facility. The position was created due to Taylor's Pointe's leadership team's desire, who share a passion for caring with our elders with memory impairment. Over the next several months, in addition to the development and implementation of more memory support focused programming on our Ash unit, you will be kept abreast of changes in the overall environment on that unit as well.

We have developed a committee that includes Sheena, Hanna (Speech Therapist), James (Social Worker), Melissa (ADON for Ash), Tamar (ADON) and our administrator (Tina), who will all be working collaboratively to create a stimulating and appealing living environment for our elders. Our goal is to enhance the lives of our elders by providing an environment that supports their memory impairment while stimulating their senses.

Sheena also wanted to share the following:

"As part of my commitment to our memory-impaired residents, it is my intent to develop and provide daily activities that will stimulate our resident's mind, body, and senses. We are looking to engage our elders in meaningful and purposeful programs designed to meet each individual's specific needs and to enhance their quality of life. Examples of anticipated programs include, but are not limited to: music therapy, aromatherapy (including baking on the unit with small groups), workshops designed especially for men, pet therapy, arts and crafts, and so on. In addition, we will be purchasing new activity items specifically designed for the memory impaired population. I look forward to working directly with this special group of residents, and thank you for the opportunity to do so."

As always, we continue to do our very best to make the lives of those with whom we are entrusted to care for the very best possible.

Stay safe and healthy, and we will update you again soon.
